Climate change and global warming are problems that we've been aware of for hundreds of years. However, even today, much of humanity doesn't consider these issues with the urgency required. I believe that unless they are aware of the problem affecting their daily lives, the common person will not concern themselves with such — in a sense, “abstract” — large scale issues.
That is I wanted to draw focus to an aspect of climate change that every person is witness to: the weather. By compiling and visualizing daily weather data for the years of 2012 and 2022, we’ll see changes that have occurred over just the last decade of time — how the weather has generally grown more erratic, how the difference in temperature day by day differs greater than 10 years ago, etc.
The weather affects everyone on a daily basis. It directs how we dress, what preparations we make before going out, and even our mood. My main intent with this project was to let the audience make their own observations and analysis of the data presented, as people often take things more seriously when they come to a conclusion themselves instead of just being told it.
