Book Cover Redesign - 'Because of Winn Dixie'
'Because of Winn-Dixie' was a book that I first read when I was young, and it stuck with me because of its profound themes. The ideas of melancholy, loneliness, and redemption were explored in depth throughout the book, and Kate DiCamillo’s descriptions of said emotions in each character through the honest lens of 10-year-old India Opal resonated with my child self to the extent that I still clearly remember it over a decade later. Melancholy and redemption are complicated concepts to explain to kids, and I was introduced to them through 'Because of Winn-Dixie.' Because of that, the novel has a lot of significance and nostalgia to me.
In this personal project, I created concept redesigns of the covers and dust jacket for a hardcover version of the novel. This project took 6 days and used Adobe Photoshop. All illustrations and designs are by me, with the text (reviews, summary, and author section) taken from a combination of the Penguin Random House website and the physical copy of the book I own.
